Amazing Spider-Man #116 - #118

The Smasher was the creation of the Disruptor and a bio-chemist named Thaxton. The Disruptor created the Smasher to be super-powered muscle in his scheme to be elected mayor of New York. Campaigning from a "tough on crime" platform, the Disruptor used the Smasher to make it seem like his campaign had organized crime worried. This pulled public opinion in his favor.

Eventually, Spider-Man got involved and after he battled the Smasher to a stand-still, the Disruptor decided to increase his powers and abilities. Eventually, the Disruptor sent the Smasher out to capture or kill Joe Robertson to prevent Robertson from investigating the background of the candidate known as Richard Raleigh.

Spider-Man prevented the Smasher from completing his task, and gave Robertson time to escape. Then, Spider-Man secretly followed the Smasher back to the Disruptor's hideout. Once there, the Disruptor ordered the Smasher to destroy Spider-Man, but the Disruptor's control device was destroyed in the battle. The Smasher turned on his former master, and crushed him with a single blow.

The Smasher continued to fight Spider-Man, but Spider-Man was able to defeat the brute by smashing the implant in his head. It is not known if the Smasher survived the battle or not.
