Sandman
Powers & Abilities:The Sandman possesses the ability to convert all or part of his body into sand. He is able to alter both the shape and density of his body, so that he can diffuse his body to allow physical attacks to pass harmlessly through him one moment and become hard as stone to retaliate the next. He can also shape his body into anything he can imagine and often converts his hands into large sledgehammers to pummel his victims. He can also project his sand at high velocity essentially smothering his victims in a sandstorm. Sandman is also able to replenish lost sand by integrating common sand into his body. Having his body be composed of sand causes him to be particularly vulnerable to heat. High temperatures can cause his body to fuse into glass, but given time, he is able to recover himself from such a state. Equipment & Weapons:In the past, Sandman wore a costume designed for him by the Wizard. This costume contained a number of chemicals which he could mix with his sand to varying effects. For example, he could mix oil with his sand to create a pool of slippery substance. At this time, the Sandman no longer uses this costume. Origin:William Baker grew up in New York and became a respected thug in a protection racket. Known for his hostility and brutality, he was arrested and imprisoned for a variety of offenses. He was eventually released, but after exacting a brutal revenge on his ex-girlfriend's new flame and going on a one-man crime spree, he was re-incarcerated. He managed to escape maximum security through an unguarded drainpipe, but made his way down the East Coast pursued by the F.B.I. Finally, he took refuge in a military testing site in Georgia. He was lying on the beach when an explosion bombarded him with a massive dose of radiation. When he awoke, he discovered that his body had fused with the sand on the beach, and he could manipulate and control his new sand-based body at will. He embarked on a new criminal career and has clashed with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the Incredible Hulk. Sandman's Timeline |
