Hired by J. Jonah Jameson, the new Mysterio sets up a series of attacks on Spider-Man. His first illusion causes Spider-Man to lose his Spider-Mobile in the river. Their next confrontation ends in Spider-Man injuring his hands by slamming them into brick walls when he thinks he being confronted by all his enemies.

After that confrontation, Spider-Man finds that the original Mysterio is dead, and the current one is claiming to be his ghost come back for revenge. Also, Spider-Man continues to see "ghost" images of his enemies while he's swinging around the city as Spider-Man and as Peter Parker.

Spider-Man finally finds the "image projector" that Mysterio planted on him that's causing him to see his enemies everywhere. Tracing the signal back to Mysterio's lair, Spider-Man easily subdues the villain. After being incarcerated by police, Berkhart calls Jameson to demand that Jameson provide him with a lawyer. Jameson refuses to cave to Berkhart's blackmail setting the stage for Berkhart to come after Jameson later...
