Equipment & Weapons:

The Mirage wore a costume from which he could cloak himself in invisibility and project a three-dimensional hologram of himself a short distance away. He could also use this projection to disguise himself and his allies or even to project multiple images of himself at once. This "image projector" resided within the Mirage's cowl. The range that this projector would work is not known.

Origin:

Desmond Charne was a holography technician who wanted to become a costumed criminal on par with Spider-Man. With Spider-Man in mind, Charne developed a portable technology to bend light which could project 3-dimensional holograms or render himself invisible. Dubbing himself the Mirage, he set out with several henchmen to make a name for himself.

Appearances:

The Mirage and his men make their debut in Amazing Spider-Man #156. In an attempt to rob several weddings in a wedding hall, they are thwared by Spider-Man (who was attending the wedding of Ned Leeds and Betty Brant). The Mirage's holograms protects him from being struck directly by Spider-Man, but unfortunately, it can't protect him when Spider-Man drops a giant chandelier on him.
