by Gil Kane, 1973

In this issue, the Puppet Master leads the Thing and Spider-Man to his abandoned laboratory in the wilds of Pennsylvania. However, he does not tell the heroes that he has set up an underground laboratory with the Mad Thinker. At the scene, the Puppet Master escapes from the heroes and joins the Mad Thinker in their underground lair.

The Thinker takes the opportunity to study the heroes by placing each in a deathtrap. He lures the Thing into a locked room and removes the oxygen. Meanwhile, Spider-Man heads down an elevator shaft coated with frictionless oil and spikes at the bottom. The heroes escape the traps, and Spider-Man knocks out the Thinker. However, as Spider-Man heads out to help the thing, explosions rock the laboratory and fill in the tunnel behind Spider-Man covering the Mad Thinker's escape.
