In a complicate plot to prevent Empire State University funding from being cut, Dr. Lansky hired Tarantula to
stage his kidnapping in broad daylight. Despite Spider-Man interference, the kidnapping came off, and Dr. Lansky thought
himself above suspicion for the next part of his plan. He sent the Tarantula out to assassinate New York City's mayor, but
Spider-Man managed to thwart that part of the scheme. Doubting Tarantula's ability to carry out his plans, he hired
Kraven to work with Tarantula to kidnap Empire State University's chancellor. After this final part of his plan worked,
Kraven was captured by Spider-Man, and Lightmaster ambushed and imprisoned Tarantula. As the Lightmaster returns to City
Hall to kidnap the mayor, Spider-Man intervenes but Lightmaster overpowers him and flies off with the mayor. Finally, Spider-Man
puts the pieces of the puzzle together and confronts Dr. Lansky at his townhouse. Lightmaster's powers gives him the upper-hand
as their fight carries them across the city until Spider-Man, for the 2nd time in two issues, tricks his opponent into electrocuting
himself into unconsciousness.
