JackalFaked Death - Amazing Spider-Man #147 - #149
In another effort to destroy Spider-Man, the Jackal arranges for the Tarantula to be freed from jail, and the two team up against the web-slinger. As the Taratula confronts Spider-Man and keeps him busy fighting on a city bus, the Jackal drives the battling pair to Brooklyn Bridge. The Tarantula finally manages to catch Spider-Man with a drug-laced boot spike, and the evil duo throw Spider-Man off in an effort to finish him once and for all. Later, as Spider-Man defeats the Tarantula, the Jackal manages to catch our hero from behind. While Spider-Man falls unconscious, the Jackal dramatically unmasked to reveal himself to be: Professor Warren. Later, in an underground lair, the Jackal recounts his full origin and motives to a drugged and helpless Spider-Man. With a final taunt, the Jackal tells Spider-Man to come to Shea Stadium if he wants to rescue the clone of Gwen Stacy. Finally, at Shea Stadium, Spider-Man is ambushed by the Jackal AGAIN and knocked unconscious. At this point, our hero awakes to find himself battling his clone in order to save both Gwen and Ned. While Spider-Man confronts himself, the clone of Gwen Stacy manages to pull Professor Warren out of his delusions long enough to relize that he's going to become a murderer. In a valiant act, he saves Ned from the detonating bomb but is killed in the resulting explosion. In true comic book fashion however, 15 years later, the Jackal is revealed to have faked his own death and returns to taunt Spider-Man some more.... |
