Green Goblin IIFirst Appearance - Amazing Spider-Man #136-#137
The Green Goblin strikes out at Spider-Man by bombing their apartment and injuring Mary-Jane Watson in the process. While watching over MJ in the hospital, Peter has a vision of the Green Goblin striking out at his loved ones, and he goes to investigate the original Goblin's hideouts. While investigating the warehouse where the original Green Goblin died, Spider-Man determines that someone has gone through efforts to make the place look uninhabited. Waiting on a stakeout, he strikes paydirt as Harry Osborn, in the guise of the Green Goblin, appears. The two battle to a standstill due to Spider-Man holding back for fear of hurting his friend. Finally, Spider-Man realizes that the Goblin does not share his sentiments and he pummels the Goblin into submission. However, the Goblin manages to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat when Spider-Man is overcome by the fumes from the Goblin's Glider. A drained power supply is all that prevents the Green Goblin from killing Spider-Man, and he flies off vowing to strike again. The Goblin lays low for a couple of days coming out only to hijack the cargo of an "Atomic Industries" truck. Spider-Man finally catches up with Harry at his dad's old townhouse. After Spider-Man quickly captures the Goblin, the Goblin reveals his diabolical plan. He's kidnapped Flash Thompson, Mary-Jane Watson, and Aunt May and is holding them in various places around New York. One of the trio is threatened by a bomb due to go off in six minutes. After knocking the Goblin unconscious, Spider-Man, picking up on a clue from the Goblin, manages to get to and rescue Aunt May from being killed. Afterwards, when Harry is being carried away by the authorities, Harry attempts to reveal Spider-Man's secret identity to the world, but is considered discredited when he claims to be the Green Goblin. The Green Goblin has been around for years, and Harry is obviously too young to be the Goblin. |
