His death prematurely announced, Doctor Octopus, looking like any other derelict, wanders the streets of Manhattan. He's stalked by an unseen tormenter and yells "LEAVE ME ALONE!" while fleeing from no one and nothing. Finally, he makes his way out to Forest Hills and makes himself at home with Aunt May. When Peter Parker unexpectedly drops by, Doctor Octopus explains that he escaped the nuclear plant explosion via a shielded escape tube. Finding himself washed up on the mainland, he returned to New York only to find himself pursued by the ghost of Hammerhead. During their conversation, the ghost of Hammerhead appears, and a panicked Doctor Octopus flees with Aunt May in tow. He makes his way into the city and escapes Spider-Man by hijacking a helicopter. Doctor Octopus takes his hostage to Brookhaven National Laboratory. In an attempt to destroy Hammerhead once and for all, Doc Oct accidentally brings him back to the land of the living. When Hammerhead kidnaps Aunt May in his escape, Doctor Octopus teams up with Spider-Man to capture him. Finally, the two confront Hammerhead in one of his old clubs, and after freeing May and destroying Hammerhead's escape helicopter in mid-arm, Doctor Octopus flees vowing to return. |
