DisruptorAmazing Spider-Man #116 - #118
Richard Raleigh campaigned for mayor of New York City with a "tough on crime" platform. He created his alter-ego, the Disruptor, to stage attacks on his own campaign to make it seem like his campaign had organized crime running scared. His intent was that these attacks, along with heavy campaigning among New York's young adults, would sway the public and the polls in his favor. To this end, he teamed up with a bio-chemist named Thaxton to created the rampaging brute known as The Smasher. Using a control device, the Disruptor sent Smasher out to destroy his own campaign signs and disrupt his rallies. Once he found that Joe Robertson was looking into his background, the Disruptor super-charged the Smasher and sent him out to capture or kill Robertson. Spider-Man got involved and distracted Smasher long enough for Robertson to get away. Then, Spider-Man secretly trailed Smasher back to the Disruptor's hideout. There, the Disruptor used his controller to force the Smasher to battle Spider-Man. The controller short-circuited during the ensuing melee. Freed from the Disruptor's control, the Smasher turned on his creator and crushed him with a single blow. The Disruptor was killed on the very morning of his election victory. |
