In a gag to embarass Peter Parker, Flash Thompson has his classmates sew a Spider-Man costume for him. When Peter comes walking by, Flash dons the Spider-Man costume. However, Doctor Doom was also in the neighborhood following a device that could track Spider-Man. Doom spots Thompson in the Spider-Man outfit, and kidnaps him thinking he's the real Spider-Man.

Doctor Doom sends a television transmission claiming he's catpture Spider-Man and ordering the Fantastic Four to surrender to him. Peter is naturally confused over who the joker in the Spider-Man costume is, but realizes what happened when Liz tell him about Flash's gag. Peter sneaks out to defeat Doom, but allows the Fantastic Four to rescue Flash Thompson.
