Uncle Ben was introduced in Amazing Fantasy #15. Raising hsi nephew Peter, Uncle Ben thought his nephew was pretty special. He encouraged Peter's interest in science with new microscopes and trips to the science fair.

When a burglar broke into the Parker's, Ben surprised the intruder. Panicked, the intruder shot Uncle Ben and fled. Peter's responsibility in Ben's death has been the motivating factor in his career as Spider-Man. Ben's death forced Peter to accept that with great power comes great responsibility.
